"They're coming down the opposite pass," The man explained, jerking at the
leather, getting significantly more afraid the elves were just going to
kill him out right. "I can get there long before they do, they won't - they
won't come anywhere near here, please--"
Gavin pretended to think about it, but then shouldered his bow, grabbed the
man's sword, and pulled the arrow that was pinning him free.
"Go on then. Go to the village. Don't think about diverting - I'll be there
in a little while, just to check, and you had better be there."
The man curse but nodded, vehemently, before running off. Gavin turned and
held out the sword to Cy.
"Well that was interesting. Here, want a souvenir?"
Cyril chuckled a bit and took the sword. "Not the human swords I usually care about, but I can at least show it to Merrick." He put up his bow and strapped the sword carefully to his body and then focused far more on the matter at hand.
"We need to see how close they are to the camp." He said and started to head towards where the human had suggested. Now was the time to be silent and careful.
Cyril would worry about that blush later. For now, he was too focused on ensuring their clan was safe. Later, though, he'd think about how cute it had been and how it had made him want to tease those ears.
For the moment, he sped up just enough to get there quickly, but as careful as ever to not make more noise than he needed. He was swift and careful.
They fell into silence, and didn't even startle the birds as they made their way through the brush, until at last they'd crested the hill. It was a good, long sight, but there was no sign of the brigands, save for the distant trail of smoke on the horizon. Gavin let out a sigh.
Cyril made a noise of relief as well and then chuckled softly. He was still more quiet than normal because there was a lingering sense of worry.
Once it settled a bit more he came closer to Gavin and put a hand on his arm. "Did you see that shem's face?" he asked. "He really thought you were going to shoot that arrow right through him."
Cyril returned the grin and got a little closer. "It was rather attractive, I have to say." His voice was still low, though now it was because it took on a more suggestive tone.
Gavin laughed again, the nervousness now about something else entirely. "Well, that would be new," He said, as if it was just an observation and not an obvious come-on.
"Good to know, I suppose. I should threaten people more often."
"Let's try to avoid situations where that's necessary, shall we?" Cyril suggested. Slowly, he took his hand back and stepped back a bit, giving Gavin a bit more space. He was trying not to feel too disappointed, he knew there were plenty of good reasons Gavin might not be interested.
"We should probably hunt... I'm sure they'll realize we haven't any meat to speak of."
He was both relieved, and strangely disappointed, when Cyril backed away. Relieved because he'd fucked up enough, when it came to his clan, and he did actually like being able to show his face there without it getting caved in, and disappointed --
Well.
That at least was obvious.
So, instead he just looked sheepish and embarrassed.
"Oh, you can always blame it on me," He said, wryly, half meaning something else. "It's usually my fault. Since I've got to go to the village, anyway."
Cyril shook his head. "We can blame it on the shems," he pointed out. "As it was their fault anyway."
He considered Gavin for a moment. "Or we could make up a story and try to amuse them. My stories tend to be very explicit though, perhaps you ought to think of it?"
That really did make him blush - quite effectively, despite his skin being quite a darker shade than Cyril's. He laughed, to try to cover it up.
"I think the length of time might have a direct effect on the amount of trouble I get into," He teased back, trying to ignore the fact that his face was flaming.
"Though I can think of a few people you'd probably want to meet."
"Now, now, I don't kiss and tell," Gavin said, grinning, before deciding that now was the time to get off of this hill before he made a complete and utter fool of himself.
"Pot, meet kettle," Gavin quipped. Making his way down through the brush
back toward the plains. He was keeping an eye out for something they could
actually bring home, but he was distracted by his own embarrassment.
"I'll have you know I am not a tease. I will always follow up," Cyril said softly but he was getting distracted by looking for his things that they could bring home.
